CURE: 4 Lives That Were Changed Because of Your Generosity

Almost a month ago, we gathered together on Christmas Eve morning and enjoyed some holiday fun together, sang songs, and leaned into the Christmas story as we celebrated the greatest gift ever given – Jesus.

We also celebrated by partnering with CURE for our Christmas Eve offering to help children born with disabilities receive life-changing and life-saving surgeries. CURE is an organization that is dedicated to giving the gift of healing and sharing the love of Jesus with kids affected by illnesses and disabilities that are fully curable if treated properly.

Surgeries typically cost $1,000 per child. $1,000 dollars and a child’s life is changed forever.

That’s how much the new iPhone costs, or how much it would cost to buy every person who came to United on Christmas Eve a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks.

And, YOUR remarkable generosity made it possible for four children to receive a life-changing surgery and hear about the love of Jesus.

Below is a little bit about the story of each child. We invite you to track their progress and send them well messages if you’d like (Just click on their name to do so).

Hassan

Hassan is one of 8 children, and he lives in Uganda with his family. His mother and father are farmers in a small town in Southern Uganda. Hassan just went through surgery to treat hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Hydrocephalus is a life threatening condition if it’s not caught and treated before the child turns two.

Modesta

Modesta has faced many challenges for someone so young. This sweet girl was born with brittle bone disease and received care at a government hospital until she was 2 years old. Sadly when Modesta was 3, her mother passed away, and the family stopped taking her for treatment. Modesta originally came in to be treated for a fracture in her other leg, and the doctors offered to treated her bowed leg as well.

Flossy

This precious little girl came in with a tumor and hydrocephalus. Thankfully, the surgeons were able to treat her right away. Both her brother and mother are with her at CURE Uganda.

Mabel

Mabel’s grandparents traveled to bring her to CURE Kenya. She was born with one leg shorter than the other, but was able to receive a surgery that freed her from her disability. Now she is able to just be a kid! Mabel was the last of the four children to receive surgery, and is still at the hospital.

Thank you for giving Hassan, Modesta, Flossy, and Mabel the gift of healing and the opportunity to experience the love of Jesus!
